And it’s kind of moving really rapidly this year, or maybe it’s just me getting older. I don’t know. I know we do it in our business, in the next month or so we start planning for the following year.

If you want to increase your revenue for this year and grow your business for next year, you need more leads, because an increase in leads equal to increase in sales, which then increases your revenue.

Let’s start at square one. Before we get into the nitty gritty of crafting that perfect lead magnet, we need to lay some groundwork, because I often think there’s a misconception about what a lead magnet is. So let’s ask that question. What exactly is a lead magnet?
In the world of digital marketing, a lead magnet is essentially your golden ticket. It’s a valuable offer you give to your potential customers in exchange for their contact information. Most commonly, they’re giving you their email address. Sometimes, if you’re doing some text based marketing, they give you your phone number as well. Or they may answer some questions that actually give you valuable information about them.
A lead magnet could be anything from an ebook, to a checklist to a webinar to a discount or a quiz, essentially anything that provides value and can be delivered to them instance instantaneously. Now, where does this all fit into your customer journey, we’ve talked about the dating your ideal client map before. And just like there are five, we’ve gone over those five stages in the past. So introduction, flirting, dating, commitment, and keeping the romance alive, your lead magnet is the start of the dating phase.
It leads someone to the point where they’re ready to make a commitment to you.
So it’s kind of like, we’ll go back to the dating analogy. It’s like meeting someone at a cafe and wanting to continue the conversation. Now, the reality is, is you would not hand them your home address. You most certainly would not ask them to marry you right then and there. But maybe just maybe you’d exchange phone numbers. That’s why a lead magnet comes in. It’s a promise of more, more value, more information, more insights.
It’s your way of saying hey, let’s keep connected and see where this can go.

Because I will tell you right now, my friend that is too far of a walk people out there they’re dealing with weight, their immediate problem is how do I lose weight. So you’re going to offer them something that is specific to right now to where they are at in their journey to working with you. And that item must directly correlate to what it is that you sell.
Additionally, your lead magnet has to provide instant value. Once someone gives you their email address you have to deliver. It’s like taking a bite of a doughnut and finding that creamy filling inside. They should get something actionable and beneficial right off the bat making them think wow, this person knows their stuff. And if they’re free stuff is this amazing. Imagine what the full course looks like. That’s how you move them down that funnel.
Let’s talk about the future promise. your lead magnet is I mean, if we’re going to keep with a food analogy that amuse boosh that small, flavorful, flavorful starter, that leaves you craving for the main dish, it’s a glimpse, a teaser of what’s down the line in your funnel. This tiny treat should lead to more substantial benefits and solutions that await them. Making sure that this bite is while completely flavorful, not so filling, that they feel like they don’t need the next step.
There must be a gap between what it is you’re telling them and what it is you want them to do.
The cherry on the top of this amazing lead magnet is your call to action. You see, every great recipe has its finishing touches and our lead magnet recipe. It’s a clear compelling call to action. You’ve given them value you’ve hinted at the future. So what’s the next step? Make that call to action incredibly clear that this is the next step to what they have to do. Because if they’re confused, they’re not going to take the step. Crafting a high converting lead magnet can often be like baking that perfect cake.
You need the right ingredients in the right amounts with a pinch of love and strategy. And remember, if you want to convert, first, you’ve got to resonate with them. Now let’s talk about mistakes. Because let’s be honest, everybody makes them and while we can learn from our own mistakes, oftentimes it is much easier by learning from mistakes that other people have made.
So let’s talk about avoiding mistakes to ensure that your lead magnet is flawless.
First, the issue of your lead magnet being too broad or too niche. Think about it like tuning a guitar. If it’s too tight or too loose, it’s off key. Your lead magnet should target a distinct challenge without being so pinpointed that it alienates a huge chunk of your audience. On the other hand, being too general is kind of like playing vague background music, when your audience is yearning for a chart topping hit.
Then there’s the whole overcomplicated opt in process. Because seriously, I’m sure you’ve seen this happen. You click on somebody’s opt in for lead magnet, because if you haven’t clicked on a lead magnet yet, are you really in business? And there’s like multiple steps, you’re clicking on one thing and you have to give them your information. And then the next step is asking this question of that question. And it’s not a quiz, it’s just to get to what it is that you’re looking for complicating the process of them, giving you their information.
If it feels like a puzzle with too many pieces, chances are people are going to skip it.
And the biggest cardinal sin of every mistake in lead magnets. Listen really closely here because I am serious if you are making this mistake. That’s the main problem.
It’s not delivering on your promises.
It’s like having hyping up a blockbuster movie only to showcase amateur home movies. Or even better all of those blockbuster videos out there that you’ve seen the trailers of, and you get into the movie, and the trailers were the best part of the movie. If your lead magnet sets these huge expectations, it’s crucial that it rises to the occasion because falling short, not only lets your audience down, it risks casting a shadow on your brand and on your reputation.
