Just like in Phase 1: The Introduction Phase of Dating Your Ideal Client, business owners, entrepreneurs, consultants, and coaches tend to forget, what I like to call, the Flirting phase.
However, the Flirting Phase is incredibly important if your goal is to increase your revenue, scale your impact, and really build a sustainable, long-term business.
The Flirting Phase allows you to provide valuable content to your ideal audience to start building a connection. This content helps your audience understand who you are, what you do, who you serve, and HOW you can help them.
In this phase, you give your best for free so that people will hire you to help them solve their problems. At first, this may sound counterintuitive, but, if you think about it, it makes sense.
Why?
Giving your best content for free sets the tone for your business. The content you provide gives snippets of who you are, your expertise, and the value that you’ll bring to your customers’ lives. And, that will foster trust and encourage them to purchase from you.
How do you “flirt” with your ideal client?
- CREATE VALUABLE, CONSISTENT CONTENT: Develop a content calendar that educates your audience. This might be content that delves into the problem that you offer a solution for. Or, it may be content that explains some of the big concepts that you address as part of your solution.
Ultimately, think about what your clients need to understand to know that you’re their best solution. Give them quality background knowledge to help them realize that you know what you’re doing, that you know what you’re talking about, and that you can help them.
Think of it this way: If you offer something of value that allows them to walk with something that they can implement right away to benefit their own life or business, you demonstrate your worth and generate more energy from your ideal audience.
- FOCUS ON THE DELIVERY: Your content is only effective if your audience sees it. So, invest in getting your content in front of the people who can most use it–your ideal audience. And, focus on getting it to them in a way that they prefer to receive it.
Understand how your audience connects best. Do they prefer to listen to podcasts? Or read blogs? Or watch videos on social media? Figure out which medium they prefer to absorb new information, and provide that in a way that they can hear. This will change who your message reaches. A fantastic benefit of being an online business owner, we can reach our ideal audience quickly without them having to seek us out using the various tools (Facebook ads, etc.) at your disposal. Use those tools to optimize the number of people who see your content.
Here’s a secret: In the online world, video is often the best way to reach your ideal audience. I know, I know. I hear it all the time: It’s uncomfortable to be on video. For most of us, you’re right. It can be uncomfortable.
But, the best way to overcome this is to just do it! As the face of your business, this is something that only you can do. Don’t worry about perfection. Instead, focus on giving them useful information with genuine value that makes your ideal clients want to connect with you.
- FLIRT WITH A BUDGET: In order to flirt with your ideal audience, you must get your content out there. And, in order to do this, you must establish a budget so that your message has the best opportunity to reach your ideal client and move them on to the next phase.
The purpose of this phase is to establish yourself, your business, and your solution as knowledgeable and effective in the eyes of your ideal client. It gives them significant peeks into how your expertise will help them overcome their challenges and grow their business.
And, investing your time, budget, and expertise into flirting with your audience will help you generate the revenue you desire and scale your impact.
