Hey there. Welcome back to Marketing Matchmaker. I have had so much fun talking about the marketing must haves this month of July, and this is our last episode for July. So our last set of marketing must haves in order to really successfully market and grow your business. I hope that you have gotten as much education out of these episodes as the fun I've had in putting in them.
I know as business owners, we often get stuck when it comes to marketing, because we don't always understand what it is we need. And so that's why I decided to do this series this month is to really help you understand what it is that you need in order to successfully and profitably market your business. So today we're going to talk about a couple of things that are essential when we're really growing our business. Whether we're at six figures, whether it was zero going to six figures or six figures going to seven figures or seven figures going to eight figures, these things are all critical.
So it's, it is universal on. You have to have these things in place. So first marketing, when you don't really want to. Oftentimes business owners say things like I will market my business. When I have two customers, five customers, 10 customers, whatever that thing is, that's when I'll invest in marketing.
Reality is, is oftentimes marketing takes a whole lot longer than we think on average, what you do now actually will pay off in about three months. It's a process. There is not a quick thing that's going to happen. It's not a magic pill. There's not a magic bullet. There's nothing that's going to take you from zero to 60 in two days just doesn't happen. That's reality. My friends, when our business is in a slump, we market more. When our business is doing well, we market even more marketing is an investment in our business.
It is critical to how we grow it. And when we look at marketing as a nice to have, or a someday process or a want to have, rather than a critical piece of our business, we do ourselves and our business, a huge disfavor. We want to constantly be marketing our business. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that you're pouring tons of money into your marketing. It is, it means you are actively out there marketing your business every day of every week of every year.
That is essential to our business.
How you go about that in your marketing is completely up to you. You have two resources when it comes to your business, to your marketing, honestly, to your life in general, you have time and you have money. If you don't have one, you have to invest the other. So if you don't have the money to invest in your business, into your marketing, it is time to invest a lot of time into learning how to effectively market your business.
And I really hope these last couple of podcasts have helped you on that process. If you don't have the time to market your business, it is up to you to invest the money in order to do it. Those are your two options when it comes to marketing and it is critical to start marketing immediately. As soon as you open your doors, you need to start marketing. You can start with your circle of influence if that's what you wanna do, and you must start letting people know you are there. Hiding is never going to get you to those six, seven, and eight figures. You get to step out into the world and say, I own a business, and this is my business. This is what I do. This is who I serve. This is who I want to be connected with. That is step one in your marketing process.
And it is critical that you start marketing your business as soon as humanly possible.
I know the world has been crazy. The last couple of years, all over like the entire planet seems to have gone nuts and our economy is going up and down and sideways. And I get that. And if you are really wanting to grow your business, investing in your marketing is key.
Taking the money or the time to keep you visible. When your market slows down is really what's going to make you essential to those people who want you. When the market upturns, all of our businesses have ups and downs. All of our lives have ups and downs and economies have ups and downs. It is super critical to continue marketing, no matter what the outside world is doing, because your business well, that live friends is how you are going to create the life you've always dreamed of. And without the marketing, you're never going to get there.
So onto some other things that you really want to focus on when you're trying, especially when you're trying to scale: having a very clear digital marketing strategy. Now the last couple of weeks, we've been talking about some of the things that you need to have as part of your strategy, having a clear digital marketing strategy will help you to successfully grow your business.
Trying to throw spaghetti at the wall is never going to get you where you wanna go. Honestly, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. And yet, so often that's exactly what business owners do. They try the same marketing message over and over and over again. And they're not getting results. Well, maybe it's time to change up that messaging. However, without having a clear strategy of what you're going to do, when, how and why you're never going to get to that end goal, right?
We talked about in the first episode of this month, setting that goal. Well, part of that goal is the strategy, the map, the plan, the blueprint, whatever you wanna call it, to get to that goal. Creating systems and processes, creating audiences, allowing yourself to really step into a strategy that works for your business because not every strategy is going to work for you.
That's the thing. You can't just go to some magic gurus strategy. That's that said something like, Hey, use my exact strategy and make a million dollars. Reality is not gonna work. Because marketing is not a one size fits all. Process marketing is individualized to you, to your business, to your audience, to your process. Every marketing strategy is going to be different and really taking the time to create a marketing strategy that's going to work in your industry and in your business is, ,well it's what's going to change your business from a nice to have for people to a must have for people.
All of our businesses, I think are must haves. If we find the right people to buy them and having a clear strategy is going to help you do that.
Also having a real clear strategy when it comes to social media and how you're going to use it within the context of your marketing strategy, that's going to be incredibly helpful because there are best practices on every platform and not every platform is meant for you, right? There are lots of social media platforms out there. Everything from, you know, Facebook to Instagram, to Twitter, to LinkedIn, to Clubhouse, it's all a matter of where your audience is residing.
Choosing the platform that's going to best connect with your audience and choosing the platform that your audience consumes the most information on. Now, when it comes to doing that, when you look at your social media strategy, you must be aware that every platform has a slightly different best practices, right? While Facebook and Instagram can often cross over. Not always like there are some things that work well on Instagram, that don't work on Facebook and vice versa.
Same with LinkedIn and Facebook. Things that work on Facebook don't work on LinkedIn and being aware of that is super important. So knowing what is working on that platform and really customizing your content to that platform is going to be so helpful to you in the long run. It allows you to then be able to connect with people on that platform. And it also plays with the analytics of that platform much better.
Now that we're talking about social media, one of the things that really do help business owners to rapidly scale their business is investing in paid traffic. Paid traffic does not have to be just Facebook ads or just Instagram ads. Paid traffic can be YouTube and Twitter and Pinterest and LinkedIn. All of these platforms have paid traffic sources, understanding your social media strategy helps you to know what platform you can run, paid traffic to understanding that platforms, analytics and how it works, and its best practices means that your paid ads can be successful.
Paid ads are not where you start. Now. I won't say that you shouldn't be running paid ads if you are not making a certain amount of money because you can absolutely pay, run really low cost paid ads to start generating interest and awareness in your business. However, doing lead generation and growing your business through paid ads is not step one. That's more of a step three or four. It is a part of your social media or your marketing strategy as a whole. It is not the entire strategy. There is other pieces that go along with that strategy.
So really being able to be aware of that and knowing when to incorporate paid ads into your strategy is so important. Paid ads is like pouring gasoline onto a fire. When you have the right message, when you have the right market, when you have the right audience and you add paid ads to it, you can explode and grow your business in ways that are just, well, they're super cool to watch, right? Watching business owners going from six, six figures to seven figures because they invested in a, paid a strategy that worked for them.
The most fun I have in my business, quite honestly. One of the things about paid ads that really help to grow your business is the remarketing. It is showing your product service or solution to people who are already within your sphere of influence. So people who are already on your email list or who are already following you on a social media platform.
Being able to send them the information about your product service solution or even lead magnet or podcast or whatever it is that you're doing to bring in leads. Remarketing is a tool that I don't think enough business owners use when it comes to paid ads. It doesn't have to be expensive. It doesn't have to cost a ton of money in order to do it. It simply needs to be targeted, strategic, and you need to understand what it is you're offering and who you're offering it to.
So using pay traffic and remarketing in your overall marketing strategy can help to accelerate you to those seven figures and beyond. And let's be honest, when you get to multiple six figures, you don't have the time for organic traffic. Organic traffic is fabulous. It is. It's fantastic. I love reaching out to people and really connecting with them in an organic fashion. And there comes a point in your business when you want more people coming in, then you have time to reach out for.
Organic traffic while it is a fantastic way to bring in traffic. It's also super slow. So if you're looking to really accelerate the speed at which you're growing paid traffic is a fabulous resource. This last piece of the marketing must haves in your business is something, I think that well, most business owners ignore.
I see so many business owners trying to DIY their marketing. And while marketing is a done with you process, meaning, you are involved in your marketing and you should be, it is your business. It is your audience. It is your message. You should absolutely be involved in your marketing. When you try to do it all yourself, you end up stalling out the process. And also there's a lot to learn when it comes to digital marketing.
So trying to learn how to build a funnel or how to do run, pay traffic, or even understanding all of the different social media platform options out there for you. That can be overwhelming. So if you're not able to invest in a agency to do it all for you, I would encourage you to find a consultant that can at least help you with the process itself.
Somebody who understands it all and can help walk you through it. Because without that professional help that person who spends all of their time in the digital marketing landscape, you're really going to stall out your business. When you invest in having someone help you through the process, you are better able to grow your business, increase your revenue, and scale your impact.
