4 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Facebook Ads

*This is the final post in a series on paid traffic 101.

I feel like I could easily write you ten blog posts on running paid traffic through Facebook ads.  That’s because Facebook is an ever-changing, ever-evolving platform. I want to highlight for you some additional tips, tricks, and suggestions for Facebook ad best practices.

Over the past month, I’ve shared blog posts with you that really get into the details on how to set up and run your Facebook ads. Now that you have seen how to create Facebook ads, here are a few more tips that you can utilize to get the most out of your Facebook ads. So, don’t forget about these things!

Here are my top 4 tips for Facebook ads best practices:

1. Allow Facebook to do the heavy lifting.

Facebook has created an algorithm where they really are doing the heavy lifting with your ads if you allow them to. That’s their thing. They want you to allow them to do it for you.

When you’re setting your campaign and deciding on your ad spend budget, you can do it all manually, or you can allow Facebook to do what it does best by using tools like CBO (campaign budget optimization) and dynamic ads.

If you’re doing your Facebook ads on your own and you just don’t know what will work best or really even where to start, I suggest allowing Facebook to do its thing and take on the heavy lifting for you.

Just remember, if you are allowing Facebook to do that heavy lifting for you, make sure you provide them with as much information as possible so that it is as effective as possible.

2. Get clear before running ads

Before you ever spend a dime running ads, identify your goal. You must know what your first and final steps will be before you ever run ads, otherwise, there’s no point to it. So, identify your goal and make sure that goal correlates with the type of ad you’ll be running.

Your obvious first step will be to decide what you will promote. Before you ever run an ad, make sure that your funnel is clearly mapped out. Have every step in your customer journey outlined.

And before you ever run an ad, make sure you know your audience inside and out! Know what they like to do, what they like to read, and their preferred communication style. All of those pieces are essential when you create audiences for your ads.

Then, create your copy and your ad creative. Make sure that your copy and the ad creative both clearly identify a problem and then let prospects know what benefits lay on the other side of your ad. Make sure that it speaks to and connects with your audience.

And, make sure your ad has a clear call to action. Here’s the reality, if you don’t tell people what to do, they won’t do anything.

3. Always perform tests

When it comes to running ads, don’t just set it and forget it. Never simply assume what will work and what won’t work when it comes to your Facebook ads. It is good practice to test everything.

Whenever you create a new Facebook ad, track its performance and compare it with previous ads. This will help you see whether or not the changes you made resulted in improved performance. You can then use the positive changes on future ads and avoid changes that didn’t result in improvements.

Please note that best practices for Facebook ads are always evolving and always changing. Find out what works best for a certain audience and go with this.

4. Track performance

You can view how your Facebook ads are performing on the Facebook ads manager dashboard. If you notice that one of your campaigns is not performing well, it is best to place your money on the campaign that is performing.

As you start out with Facebook ads, try running several small campaigns with a limited budget. You can then view how each of the campaigns is performing and choose the one that performs the best.

When creating your ad always, always be sure to:

  • Add keywords
  • Avoid lengthy sentences and keep it short
  • Add an image or a video
  • Place the image or video above the URL
  • Use taglines to grab attention
