Whew! I don’t know about you, but when I reflect on 2020, I have to take a deep breath. This year has been filled with such uncertainty, frustration, and complete craziness.
Frankly, 2020 has been a complete shitshow! Are you with me?!
While this year has not been what any of us had hoped or expected, it has been a had dose of reality. Sometimes we need that hard dose of reality to assess what is truly important.
I hope that what you’ve realized in 2020 is how important you and your business are to the success of your clients. And, as they start to recover from this crazy year, they’re going to need you even more.
With that in mind, even though you may not have achieved all your business goals 2020, you have the opportunity to use the rest of 2020 and early 2021 to set resolutions to make 2021 an amazing year for business growth.
I know what you’re thinking. Resolutions — most of them never come to fruition. But, I’m here to tell you that with determination and perseverance, the resolutions you’ve set now will help you achieve the success you want in 2021.
After all, you’ve made it through 2020, so you’re ready to conquer 2021!
Use these tips to make a resolution and stick with it:
Make Ambitious Goals:
Really think about what you want to achieve in 2021 and set a specific, ambitious goal.
When you have high expectations for yourself, you are more likely to use perseverance and creativity to achieve your goals. Perhaps you want to bring on a specific number of new clients, connect with a specific number of new people to your network, or have a specific sales goal.
While you want to dream big for your business, it’s important to give yourself a reality check and make sure your goal is a SMART–specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound–goal. If you don’t think it’s realistic to achieve your ambitious goal within this year, that’s perfectly fine; instead, you’ll make a plan to work towards that goal within this year.
Break Your Goal into Manageable Parts & Make a Plan:
This is key. Think of the last time you made a weight loss goal or something similar. If you don’t break it down into manageable parts and create a plan, you end up forgetting the steps needed in order to accomplish your goal.
The same is true for your business goals. Take your SMART ambitious goal, and break it into small, manageable SMART goals to create a plan for yourself to follow throughout 2021. This enables you to make progress and experience small victories along the way to achieving your greater goal.
Learn from the Past:
Use your past experiences to help you navigate your path to accomplishing your goal. 2020, for example, has been a great year to learn flexibility.
Take the lessons you’ve learned along the way to help you achieve the success you desire. And, as you learn new lessons along the way, be sure to implement those as well.
Acknowledge Small Successes:
Too often we get caught up with the end goal, that we seem to ignore the smaller successes along the way.
Be sure to take the time to recognize how far you’ve come and your achievements as you work towards your 2021 goal. This not only helps you keep going to achieve your goals but it also serves as motivation to keep going even when you face challenges along the way.
