If you’re like most business owners, you understand the notion that so often you get distracted by all the moving parts of your business. And, you get so busy working IN your business that you forget to work ON your business.
When you get busy working in your business, you may end up overlooking important components of the digital marketing process. This, ultimately, slows down the growth of your business because you’re missing important pieces of the puzzle that are integral to your digital marketing campaign.
There are five steps to a successful digital marketing process. Each step is an important and necessary piece that allows you to effectively market and grow your business.
Today, let’s focus on the first step because often this is the one that people overlook the most.
Step one is what I call the introduction phase.
I like to compare marketing to dating. Consider this with me: In dating, when you’re looking for a partner, the first step is an introduction. Whether that’s online, through a mutual friend, or bumping into them in a grocery store, you have to be introduced to someone before you can begin the dating process. If the introduction never happens, there is no way that you can even consider dating.
The same is true in marketing.
What is the Introduction Phase of Digital Marketing? In step one, you create awareness of your business and build your audience.
Why is it essential to your digital marketing plan? Just like in dating, if there’s no initial introduction the question of building a relationship with a potential client is out of the question. In marketing, you must let people know who you are, what you do, and who you serve. Without this introduction and if they don’t know you exist, they can’t hire you or buy from you.
How do you implement step one of digital marketing? Here’s the reality: on average, about 1% of the people who follow you will buy from you. That means that if a hundred people follow you, one person will buy from you. Therefore, it is essential to build–and continue to build as you grow your business–a larger audience to garner more selling power.
Not only is it important to have a large audience, but they must see your message in order to interact with your business. We know that platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn are great to network, but they also control who sees your message. Therefore, to successfully engage in this stop of the digital marketing process, you need to not only use social media but build connections through email messaging.
