To effectively promote your business, your marketing strategy needs to be organized and deliberate.

However, this is something that I see clients struggle with the most.

Without a clear marketing strategy, it leads to inconsistency and frustration within your business. And, a haphazard approach will only waste your time and money.

To run an effective marketing campaign, use these three tips:

Tip #1: Set Short- and Long-Term Goals

Without goals, it’s impossible to measure whether or not your marketing is effective. Ask yourself: What do you want to accomplish with your marketing? Break your goals into short-term–three to six months–and long-term–six months to a year. Depending on where you’re at in your business and how you’re scaling it, you might set your long-term goals to three to five years.

Set your goals so that they are measurable in terms of your return on investment (ROI).

Remember that gaining likes on Facebook or increasing your Facebook following are vanity metrics unless those likes and followers are turning into sales.

Instead, your marketing strategy should involve metrics around building your business. For example, set your goals around the number of people that visit your website from Facebook, YouTube, or other social media platform you’re using. From there, set goals about the people who then go on to buy from you.

Tip #2: The Right Social Media Platform

If you are using social media to market your business, be sure to use the right network for your audience. Each social media platform had a different demographic. Facebook is one of the most popular platforms to market on, but it’s not the only one. The key is to pinpoint where your target market is hanging out and focus your marketing efforts on that platform. Marketing on other platforms is a waste of your time, so it’s imperative that you’re using the right social media platform.

Tip #3: Create a Blueprint of your Strategy

A marketing strategy is the driving force behind your sales. Therefore, without a strategy, you weaken your sales efforts. Unfortunately, I see a lot of people jump in without a real strategy in place. Using unplanned and inconsistent marketing often leads to ineffective and disappointing results.

On the other hand, an effective marketing plan requires a clear map of your goals and how you’re going to achieve them.

To create a clear plan, determine these key measurements:

  • What is going to show you what is working?
  • What are the exact steps that need to be implemented to achieve your goals?
  • What content will you need?

Carefully thinking through these three tips, will help you determine your timeline and help you create an effective marketing plan and start converting into sales. Done by itself, each step will not help you reach your goals. Instead, you need to combine all three components to build a strategy with a clear map leading to an end goal.
